Best Green Innovators In the GTA
The competition for the green innovation award has reached its results
and announces three winners. April 23rd saw the declaration by Mayor
David Miller, Deputy Mayor Joe Pantalone and CityNews Meteorologist
Michael Kuss of the finest green innovators, at the Direct Energy
Centre, Exhibition Place. The Green Toronto Award was handed to each of
the innovators along with a share of the $50,000 prize winnings.
The
young scientists aim to maintain the environment, the prize money is
just a bonus. There were lots of very interesting solutions and
improvements suggested by all the finalists. The ideas were not about
fanciful solutions that would never see light outside of a research
lab, but real solutions that you may someday see in common use.
Below are the top three winners:
- Olivier Trescases, PhD and Chris Lea, with Green Gym: An exercise gym that is specially built to harvest energy and send it to the grid.
- Sarah Lazarovic and her idea GreenHouseTO; For those Toronto people that are interested in Toronto buildings comes a well thought out web and mobile renovation application.
- Robert Kori Golding, for his idea My Green City: A Facebook and iPhone cross-platform application. Planting a tree, cutting down waste or any other environmental improvements you make will be exchanged for points when using this game/application
Green is always the way to go!
The
day didn't come to a halt there, there was a further 9 other Green
Toronto Awards: Community Projects Award, Energy Conservation Award,
Environmental Awareness Award, to name just a few There was reward
money of $5,000 to each of the finalists which they shared with a
charity of their own choosing.
