Toronto in a nutshell
66Having lived and worked in Toronto so many great years, I believe this city itself deserves few lines in my page as it has always been a place ready to give you a cozy feeling even if you are a bit sceptical in the first place. So I am to devote the next paragraphs to a short description of Toronto, showing why this city is not only worth visiting as a tourist but also living and organizing your life in.
Firstly, what strikes as interesting is that "Toronto" means "meeting place", a name that was given by the Huron Nation, one of the native nations who initially inhabited North America. Now Toronto, except for being the provincial capital of Ontario and the largest city in Canada, lives up to its name as it is a cosmopolitan city with a huge percentage of immigrants- thus one of the most diverse in religion, race, and lifestyle in Canada with more than 100 languages and dialects spoken- and a "global city", meaning that it is deemed to be an important node point in the global economic system along with other cities in the West like NYC and Vancouver.
Toronto is also called "the city of neighbourhoods" because it has up to 240 vital dinstict communities in its boundaries which set it apart from the commercial core with skyscrapers. In fact, it is rated to be one of the world's most livable cities by the "Economist Intelligence Unit" due to the fact that it has clean environment, friendly atmosphere and low crime rates. I have to admit that this is reflected in all the neighbourhoods I specialize in as a Toronto realtor.
What's more, Toronto is recognised as the third largest theatre centre in the English speaking world and it has an amazingly array of public spaces, of both city squares and public parks, which are protected by a special group called "Toronto Public Space Committee". According to architects (and residents), the city doesn't follow one dominant architectural style but embraces ideas from Europe and USA. Some unique styles have developed too, like the "bay and gamble". The most popular building is truly the CN Tower located in Downtown Toronto, which is a communications and observation tower and one of the tallest freestanding structure in the world (533,33 metres), remaining a symbol of Canada.
Generally, Toronto offers good quality of education, health care and transport and it has turned out to be one of the best places to live in. Cultural life is generously fostered. Festivals like "Pride week" in late June and "Caribana" from mid-July to early August attract thousands of inhabitants and tourists and "Toronto International Film Festival" is of the most important annual events in the internationl film industry. Besides, the production of local and foreign films is a major locan industry.
Toronto, in a nutshell, is the perfect place to live! One has to try it to understand how it is like to enjoy such a lively capital!
